Sleep dentistry for children and adults with anxiety, phobias, and special needs
Many of us are anxious about being at the dental clinic. Some have a fear of dental treatments, specific phobias, or social anxiety. Others are unable to communicate effectively or experience interfering reflexes. It’s not a surprise that many Canadians are interested in sedation during their dental treatments. Dental Care While You Sleep is Hamilton’s dental office where anxiety fades away. We don’t replace your family dentist, we complement them by providing our specialized expertise when you need it. You can actually be comfortable and feel relaxed at the dentist regardless of the required treatment.
State-of-the-art dental anaesthesia and sedation
Creating a relaxing dental clinic experience involves licensed expertise in many types and levels of sedation and anaesthesia
There are many sedation medications and degrees of effect that create a variety of experiences. Most of our patients prefer to sleep during their treatment, for which deep sedation is well suited. To further decrease anxiety, a calming oral medication can be taken prior to treatment. At our dental clinic, you can go to sleep with an IV, or, in the case of children, with a mask. For those who want to stay conscious while protected from feeling sensations, conscious or moderate sedation are options. Our licensed and highly experienced specialists in dental anaesthesia will work with you to discover the best choice for your most relaxed, most comfortable experience. We even have a unique system for pretreatment digital radiographs and imaging that is easy for our young patients and those with a high gag reflex. Our equipment and medications exceed the Canadian Academy of Dental Anaesthesia guideline requirements.
Dentistry for children
Sedation for kids requires specialized training
Children don’t always have a lot of patience, and they want to have fun! Going to the dentist can be a challenge. Our dentists and staff provide the special attention that kids need. Although we treat adults, we have training in dentistry for toddlers, children, teens, and children with special needs. Helping kids develop good habits, prevent health risks, enjoy correct alignment and functionality, and have a happy smile is what we do.
Your sleep dentistry experience
Consultation
You can feel relaxed at our consultations. Your level of anxiety and ability controls the nature of our meeting. During the consultation, your dental needs are evaluated, your questions answered, and your special requests addressed. You become familiar with our dental clinic. You learn about the anaesthesia and sedation options recommended for you, as well as what to expect during and after your treatment. A medical evaluation and physical exam are included too. It’s a safe space where caring and trained specialists support you.
Treatment
Our goal is to make this the easiest dental treatment that you’ve ever had. With sedation and anaesthesia medicines, you can be relaxed and comfortable during the dental treatment. Treatment may include general dental procedures such as children’s dentistry, deep cleaning, fillings, root canal therapy, crowns, bridges, and other surgical procedures. Dr. Adams, Dr. Nenniger, and our nursing staff will monitor you during and after the treatment. Other dental specialists may be brought in when needed for even more specialized procedures. Where possible, all necessary dental treatments are completed in one appointment. With anaesthesia and sedation, everyone can receive the dental care they need, regardless of anxiety level. You will not even recall your treatment, as you wake up with a smile.
